The Story of Poseidon and Athens
Poseidon once had a competition against Athena to see who would be the guardian of Athens. The people said that whoever gave them the best gift would win. Athena gave them an Olive tree and Poseidon gave them a horse for War. Athena’s gift was preferred as they did not want to go into war. That is why it is called Athens.
How Poseidon built the walls of Troy
Poseidon and Apollo were made by Zeus to go and work for King Laomedon who was the King of Troy. Laomedon asked them to build huge walls around Troy and promised he would reward them. However the King did not keep to his side of the deal, so Poseidon sent a Sea-monster over to attack Troy which was later killed by Heracles. These were the famous walls which made Troy so hard to defeat during the Trojan War.
